I stick by the poor concept but I should’ve added poor execution by the label. I’m sure he has much better songs which could’ve been released first, does anyone really believe that it was a genius decision to release a mixtape song? Don’t get me wrong, dudes dope but he has much more to offer as an artist and this doesn’t really do him justice.

Banging on about the lowest common denominator etc is all well and good when critiquing more sophisticated material, but this is after all this the music video of a 21/22 year old man who raps about ‘pussy is only pussy and I get it when i need it’ & ‘I can make your pussy whistle’ etc, and Kanye (well known freak) West.
Whether it is an artistic triumph of the highest pleasure is not the issue.
It will swim because they know who the majority of their fans are.

You also don’t need to be an A&R to know that the reason why that track got the most air play was because his management/A&R made that decision, this is the music business dude. It didn’t just hop onto radio because all these dj’s thought it was the hottest track, if that was the case you wouldn’t have blogs, radio stations etc saying the same thing about the same music at the same time. Therefore its still a poor management/A&R/marketing decision to do what they have done for this artist.

Myself, being a young man, a young single man at that, I kind of wanted to be real about the way I function with women at this current point in my life. Which is, I don’t have one woman that I call my girl. There’s different girls in my life that play different roles and I see at different times, but collectively they kind of make up the roster of happiness for me.
The concept of the video is, I’m a coach at a high school and the girls of my life are all on my high school basketball team. Throughout the video you see us prepping for this big championship game, and my team ends up losing. You see the looks on their faces at the end of the video, but the moral of the story, I guess, is win or lose, you can still be the best to somebody. When women see the video and see all the breast and ass, hopefully they don’t take offense. Hopefully they see the real meaning.

Complex: Understandable. So what’s the concept?
Drake: The concept of the video is, I’m a coach at a high school and the girls of my life are all on my high school basketball team. Throughout the video you see us prepping for this big championship game, and my team ends up losing. You see the looks on their faces at the end of the video, but the moral of the story, I guess, is win or lose, you can still be the best to somebody. When women see the video and see all the breast and ass, hopefully they don’t take offense. Hopefully they see the real meaning.
