Creativity is a strange and wonderful old thing. It knows no limits, bounds or restraints and shouldn’t ever be confined to just one field or area. Expression is free and thus personifies itself in many different shapes and forms. Perhaps Lil Wayne subscribes to a similar train of thought. One listen to his highly delayed 7th new studio album Rebirth – pretty much confirms this.
Following the release, acclaim, gongs, and 3 million plus sales of Dwayne’s brilliant Tha Carter III he informed the world that his next musical endeavour would be a rock album.
You can almost see the scene: Wayne and his Young Money cohorts all gathered in a late night studio session. Goons and hanger-ons drift in and out of clouds of weed smoke, while toting white styrofoam cups respectively. Wayne takes the floor and addresses the room.
“I went platinum in a week. Your boy needs a new challenge. This rap shit is too easy for the kid, and plus I been doing it since I was 9. My next album will be a rock album”.
Silence falls upon the studio and confused tattooed goons shoot each other stares of bewilderment – clearly worried that this move could jeopardise their ‘member of the entourage’ status
