Chapter & Verse
Summer might finally be breaking through after a winter that has lasted for ever which gives me a chance to bust out the Nas shirt that I got hold of a few months back. It came via Chapterandverse who have a pretty impressive range of T-shirts all based around Hip Hop’s biggest names. As well as the shirts being fairtrade they have a nice subtlety to them with the numbers on the shirts having a direct relevance to the songs

Nas & Damian Marley Album Review + Win Copies
I have to admit I never thought Distant Relatives would see the light of the day. I’m sure that if you cast your mind back you’d remember a Jay & Nas album mooted, the Game & Nas whispered and virtually every hot producer ever and Nas. This one always struck me as leftfield and maybe because of that it had a fighting chance and it sure as hell doesn’t disappoint.

My copy of Distant Relatives dropped this morning so I’m gonna live with it for the weekend and post my review on Monday.
The Revolution will be Televised.
When we look back at why there has been a massive up turn in the success of UK urban music I would argue that it is partly because of a new found visibility. Geeky?? Yep. Let me continue.
UK Hip Hop never broke through and not because of a lack of talent but because the outlets weren’t there. Now we have a different story – SBTV, Grime Daily, Westwood TV and even hell Risky Roads have brought visibility to artists that never got any chance to shine. There is still even in these days of download a huge correlation between TV apperances and sales. Getting a slot on Jonathon Ross is more important than radio plays. That’s why I wanted to take a minute to big up Mistajam and team for getting a series of their show No Hats No Trainers made for BBC2 home of antique shows and comedy shows other channels turned down.
The pilot featured a whole array of underground and mainstream, US and UK and is just what we need someone to bridge the gap.
Had a sneak glimpse of the first episode and although it is definitely aimed at a younger end of the audience, Grime daytime on mainstream TV is a great step forward in broadening the music out even further. If that wasn’t enough the addition of features on the culture broadens the show out nicely WAH Nails, Noel Clarke and some straight all out slapstick comedy.
Make sure you tune in to BBC 2’s No Hats No Trainers Saturday at 1.35pm.
