Bring the noise….

March 9, 2010 by Danny Wood

To produce these insane heels, INSA retraced the footsteps Chris Ofili made over 15 years ago and sourced dung from the same family of elephants that produced the dung used in Chris’s infamous paintings of the nineties. Using similar techniques and materials; beading, resin and painting, INSA pays homage to the style and significance of Ofili’s early work. As a nod to their shared influences, INSA‘s work is entitled ‘Anything goes when it comes to (s)hoes…” a play on a lyric from the classic Big Daddy Kane track ‘Pimpin Ain’t Easy” which is referenced in numerous Chris Ofili paintings.

Both the heels and the new piece “Only God and You Can Judge Me (Jumbo Edition)” will be on display at Tate Britain from Sunday 14th March.

 Bring the Noise!

Charlie Dark brings together the likes of Tinie Tempah, INSA, Cooly G, Eddie Kadi, GoldieLocks, Cut the Chat TV, Jan Blake, Mala, Wah Nails and Rolling Sound in a mix of performances, artwork, events and workshops that respond to and resonate with Chis Ofili’s stunning exhibition at Tate Britain.

Sunday 14th March, 11.00 – 18.00

Sunday 21st March, 11.00 – 18.00 Tate Britain, Pimlico, London

Free Entry – Limited Capacity – Tickets from 11am.Free tickets for main performances on a first come first served basis from 11am, plus see the Chris Ofili exhibition for £5 if you are under 26 and have ID. The Tribe fam will be down there in full effect and a photo review will follow.

Most objects that we interact with everyday are discarded without a second thought. How many readers think about how they can reuse their collection of empty Milk containers at the end of the week? I don’t but maybe I will now thanks to clever blog, AfriGadget. Afrigadget is a website dedicated to showcasing African ingenuity in such a beautiful and life-affirming way. A team of bloggers and readers contribute their pictures, videos and stories from all over Africa. The website is a testament to Africans using their creativity to overcome life’s challenges. Truly inspiring inventions made from the most mundane objects. This has seriously got me thinking.

John Peets…

March 2, 2010 by Danny Wood

I first came across John Peets when inspecting the CD sleeve of the recent Blakroc project last year. John was behind the studio photography of the sessions involving the Black Keys and Dame Dash’s band of merry men (and women). I stalked John Peets down, we are now friends on wastebook and he is heading over to LDN soon when we shall be linking up to talk all things Blackroc project. But for now I want to turn your attention to his other projects. Really moody photography which captivates and is just stunning. For the rest…I come like Busta and give you some MORE
